You Are The Clock

You Are the Clock is a web of research that warps and haunts itself in varying recurring formats to explore spontaneous composition as a practice that prototypes new time-based frameworks of collaboration, information, and memory. The project dislocates improvisation from the presuppositions of creating in the so-called moment, and offers an expanded, non-linear understanding of the 'now' in which improvisation takes place. Where performing a piece of music is the writing of it, information materializes as it is processed as well as forgotten. What is required to create something from virtually nothing, in real-time, and with another? Presented as an essay-in-performance in iteration, You Are the Clock unfolds through text, sound and ambience as interfaces for discovering the plasticities of time.

Initially developed at Offline Ventures/Studio Wasabi Artist Residency in Onomichi, JP and premiered at Untitled Space in Tokyo, March 2024.
